Torchmark Benevolent Foundation

The Torchmark Benevolent Foundation supports a diverse range of civic, cultural, educational, healthcare, human services, and youth organizations and promotes volunteerism and in-kind service.

The Foundation also provides emergency support to Torchmark Affiliate employees who:

  • Have used up their eligibility for support from other organizations.
  • Face needs not currently provided by other organizations.

How to Support the Torchmark Benevolent Foundation

Financial support for the Torchmark Benevolent Foundation is always welcome and greatly appreciated. Affiliate employees may pick up a payroll deduction form in the Human Resources department. Contributing your time, energy, and talents to a worthwhile cause is just as important as contributing financially, and Torchmark makes it easy. Torchmark Corporation Affiliates allow its employees time off during work to support local charitable programs, such as Habitat for Humanity, REACH, Partners in Education, and the Samaritan Inn. Volunteering time to charitable organizations and events is one way to support the philosophy of Torchmark Corporation and help carry out its goals. When volunteers are needed in the community, Torchmark Affiliate employees are always among the first to respond.

Torchmark Benevolent Foundation Charitable Grants

To apply for a charitable grant from the Torchmark Benevolent Foundation, you must complete an application and supply specific documentation. All grant requests received by the Torchmark Benevolent Foundation are reviewed for approval by each Affiliate company’s Benevolent Foundation Committee. If and when the grant is approved, you are also required to complete a grant agreement.

All grant requests must be made in writing. Phone calls are not accepted.

Additional Requirements

In addition to completing an application, you must submit the following:

  • Cover letter
  • One- to two-page project proposal that details timeline, budget outline, anticipated impact on stakeholders, and the number of individuals who will benefit from the funding.
  • Federal Tax Exemption Letter IRS 501(c)(3)
  • List of Board of Directors
  • Other supporting materials, such as annual reports, brochures, flyers, news articles, etc.

If your organization requests more than $10,000, you must complete the Supplemental Questionnaire and include the following with the application and required materials:

  • Copy of most recent IRS 990 filing
  • Copy of most recent annual financial report filed with your state authority
  • List of top 10 donors in current year from whom your organization has received or has pending donations.

Torchmark Corporation Affiliate Employee Emergency Financial Relief

Employees of a Torchmark Corporation Affiliate Company may request assistance for emergency financial relief by completing the Emergency Financial Relief Application.

Applicable Deadlines

All charitable grant requests received by the Torchmark Benevolent Foundation are reviewed by each Affiliate Company’s Benevolent Foundation Committee. Please contact the appropriate committee member for meeting deadlines.

Funding Limitations

The Torchmark Benevolent Foundation does not make grants to:

  • Organizations that lack the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
  • Political organizations, candidates, or lobbying efforts
  • Fraternal or veterans’ organizations
  • Sports teams
  • National or international organizations, unless their programs have significant local impact
  • Religious or sectarian organizations, unless they conduct programs secular in nature or have wide public impact
